When you’re going through a tough time and everything seems out of your control, you might feel like screaming in your pillow, or be questioning what you probably did to merit this, or thinking that your life will never get better…

Does any of this sound familiar?

It turns out, though, that a lot of useful ways to cope with things that are out of our control is to practise acceptance. Rather than seeing ourselves as victims or our state of affairs as negative, acceptance makes us feel empowered regarding the things we are able to do.

Feelings aren’t a choice, but your behaviour and your thoughts are always a choice.

Feelings are temporary, but results are permanent.

Tomorrow you won’t care about how you felt yesterday when you decided to push through and take action anyway.

“If you’re not a risk taker, you should get the hell out of business.”
~ Ray Kroc, McDonald’s founder

One of my business mentors is a guy called Charlie Munger. He’s Warren Buffett‘s business partner, a fellow billionaire, and one of the smartest people on the planet.

Warren Buffet's friend- Billionaire Charlie MungerA cornerstone to his success has been looking for problems before they become problems and doing everything he can to avoid them.

His exact words: “Invert, always invert: Turn a situation or problem upside down. Look at it backward. What happens if all our plans go wrong? Where don’t we want to go, and how do you get there?

Instead of looking for success, make a list of how to fail instead – through sloth, envy, resentment, self-pity, entitlement, all the mental habits of self-defeat. Avoid these qualities and you will succeed.

Tell me where I’m going to die, that is, so I don’t go there.”

Most of the problems you’ll face in business will be internal problems.

I forget who said this, but someone once told me most businesses don’t die due to starvation – they die due to indigestion.

They make unforced errors – like mismanaging cashflow. Or hiring the wrong person. Or ignoring a customer complaint, which turns into a legal issue. Or having a lagging fulfilment process that can’t keep up with sales, etc.

All of these challenges can suck up cash very fast. And there’s a strange habit of them all showing up at once, at the most inconvenient times. This is why making predictions about what could go wrong, and then proactively fixing them is so important.

“There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.”
– Colin Powell

The difference between being ‘Well-Off vs. ‘Ultra-Wealthy’ is their … FOCUS!!!

There was a speaker that spoke on wealth. Who unfortunately is no longer with us. He said, “that you need TWO Businesses.”

Your PRIMARY Business, the one you’re likely putting all your focus on right now. And then your money management business.

Most people put 95% of their energy into their primary business.

If they want to make more money, they trade more time for money in their given profession. The accountant takes on more clients. The shop owner extends their trading hours. The mechanic fixes more cars.

They only put 5% of their energy into their 2nd business that manages their wealth. Which is often fairly PASSIVE. So you can even make money while you sleep!

For ultra wealthy people, it’s the other way around. 95% of their energy goes into their money management business – picking stocks, investing in real estate and checking their investments.

Only 5% of their energy goes towards their primary line of work. Master the same concept as the ultra wealthy and you’ll escape the hamster wheel sooner than you might expect.

We are all faced with increasing pressure to make well-judged decisions about every aspect of our lives.

Make the correct choice and you can give yourself a pat on the back. But make a bad decision and you can be left with feelings of regret, punishing yourself for picking an inferior option without the benefit of hindsight.

Your decision-making style will likely fit into one of two categories: Maximizer or Satisficer. I touched on these in my last article: ‘Good Enough is Good Enough.’

You might ask what’s the difference between the two decision-making styles. I have broken it down for you…

Satisficer Vs. Maximizer

Maximizer – Yearns for Perfection.

downfails of being a perfectionist

They task themselves with making the most informed, intelligent decisions by weighing all the choices. They can often suffer under the pressure of high self-expectations.

High achievers fall into the peculiar trap of getting mentally caught up in what they haven’t done. There’s always something else to be working on because it feels like, the more you do, the more you gain an edge. Setting unachievable goals for ourselves may itself impede our ultimate goal when making choices – making a choice that we will be satisfied with.

By focusing too hard on maximizing your productivity and choices can come at an ultimate cost to your time, health, and happiness. Maximizers also prone to experiencing a sense of ‘buyer’s remorse’ following a decision, doubting whether it was correct, and envisaging how life would have been had they chosen a different path.

Satisficer – Goes for Good Enough.Good Enough is Good Enough

The U.S. Nobel Prize-winning economist Herbert A. Simon introduced the ‘satisficing’ concept in his 1959 paper, Rational choice and the structure of the environment.

Simon believed that when satisficers are presented with a decision to make, they will consider what they want to gain or preserve from a situation, then evaluate their options to find the solution that meets their requirements.

Example:
When choosing a car to purchase a satisficer will consider the use of the vehicle (e.g. long commute to work), fuel efficiency, and would like the seats to be heated. When given multiple choices they will often choose the one that meets the initial decision-making criteria, without the extra lavish additional expenses (e.g. spacious interior that costs at little more).

Where maximizers might be led astray by unnecessary gimmicks and ostentation, these do not tempt a satisficer.

What approach do you take when tasked to make a decision? Test your decision-making approach – answer the quiz questions below!

QUIZ: Are You a Maximizer, or a Satisficer?

This quiz was developed by Barry Schwartz, Swarthmore College psychology professor as a way to determine your decision-making style. It may vary depending on what’s at stake.

For each statement, score yourself on a scale of 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree). The higher your score, the more of a maximizer you are.

1. No matter how satisfied I am with my job, it’s only right for me to be on the lookout for better opportunities.
2. When I am in the car listening to the radio, I often check other stations to see if something better is playing, even if I am relatively satisfied with what I’m listening to.
3. When I watch ‘TV, I channel surf, often scanning through the available options even while attempting to watch one Program.
4. I treat relationships like clothing: I expect to try a lot on before finding the perfect fit.
5. I often find it difficult to stop for a gift for a friend.
6. Renting videos is really difficult. I’m always struggling to pick the best one.
7. When shopping, I have a hard time finding clothing that I really love.
8. I’m a big fan of lists that attempt to rank things (the best movies, the best singers, the best athletes, the best novels, etc).
9. I find that writing is very difficult, even if it, just writing a letter to a friend, because of it, so hard to word things just right I often do several drafts of even simple things.
10. I never settle for second best.
11. Whenever I’m faced with a choice, I try to imagine what all the other possibilities are, even ones that aren’t present at the moment
12. I often fantasize about living in ways that are Quite different from my actual life.
13. No matter what I do, I have the highest standards for myself.

If your score is over 65, you tend to maximize. If your score is below 40, you are more of a satisficer. Schwartz says the test was given to thousands of people and the high score was 75.

Tell us in the comment section below your result and if you agree with the assessment or not.

“The trouble is, you think you have time” ~ Buddah

How frequently have you felt like you needed a “fresh start” or to begin a “new chapter” in your life?

We’ve all been there… a major profession change, a life-changing encounter, or most generally the start of the new year.

Everything is extraordinary toward the start. We’re energized and propelled however at that point, after only half a month, that fervor begins to get decrease. Also, remaining on track gets increasingly troublesome.

Would you be able to relate? This is normal, so don’t stress in the event that you can.

Today we need to put a stop to this cycle for the last time!
Great or great?

12 Steps To Creating A Truly Happy And Fulfilled Life

1. Write Down Your Goals

Take the time to do this one very important and crucial exercise.

Accomplish Goal on Calendar

What do you want to accomplish in the next 30 days? Don’t just think about it or talk about it, write it down!

Studies have shown that the simple act of taking the time to write out your goals will dramatically increase the likelihood of achieving those goals!

So write, write, write!

2. Let Go Of “What Was”

It’s time to let go of the past (just leave it behind).

Let’s face it, you can’t change the past. In fact, the past doesn’t even exist anymore. The only place it exists is in your mind.

Let it go. Learn the lessons, look for the silver-linings, and be grateful for what “is” today and what will be tomorrow… It’s impossible to “receive” anything new and great when you’re holding on to the negative stuff from the past.

So, like the Disney song …

3. Forgive

Are you holding on to any resentment, anger or regret toward someone? If so, it’s time to forgive, and again you’ve got to let it go.

The only person you hurt when you don’t forgive, is yourself.

Don’t let anyone rent space in your head.

Young couple forgive each otherWho knows why people do what they do or say what they say. Stop trying to analyze it and make it mean something it doesn’t. That’s just wasted energy.

Be the bigger person. Just forgive and move on.

Also sometimes, we need to forgive ourselves for something we’ve done or said. No one’s perfect. We all make mistakes and have done and said things we are not proud of – let it go (as per #2 above) and forgive yourself.

Choose to be the best person you can be, starting today.

4. Live “Outside” The Box

Don’t follow the “crowd.”

the steering wheel of lifeMost people are unhappy with their lives. Be courageous and follow the path to your dream life (not your parents’, friends, or even society’s dream life).

This is YOUR LIFE.  YOU are the one at the steering wheel of your life. Unless you allow them to be – DONT.

5. Enjoy The Journey

Why? Because the “journey” is your life!

Sometimes we focus so much on the end result or the “goal” we wish to achieve, that we are not even enjoying the journey it takes to get there.

If you’re really hating your journey, then maybe it’s time to make some changes in your life and/or your goals (see #1).

6. Fail Forward

Most people are afraid to try something new because they are afraid to fail. Remember, the most successful people on this planet failed way more than the “average” person. In fact, if you ask any super successful person, they’ll tell you how they failed A LOT!

Why did they become successful? Because, they never gave up.

Don’t ever let the fear of “failure” get in the way of living your dreams. If you fail, get back on that horse, brush yourself off and learn the lessons you need to learn. get back on the horse

Then adjust your path and move forward… always move forward.

7. Eat Healthy & Be Active

You only have this one body. Remember, you can’t trade it in for a new one. So treat it well…

Healthy eating - fruit salad and toastWhat you do to your body today has a huge impact on how long you live and the quality of life you will lead in the future.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Start now.

8. Be The Most Positive Person You Know

be positive good vibes onlyThe words you use when you communicate with others reflects your thoughts on the inside.

Like Buddha said “What you think you become.”

So don’t get caught up in negative conversations or gossip with others.

In fact, stay away from negative people altogether.

As they do not elevate you or your life but are “energy drainers.”. Remember, negativity is contagious and toxic . It will be difficult to manifest great things in your life being exposed to that negative energy.

Like Oprah said, “Be responsible for the energy you bring into a room.”

9. Create Your Own “Circle Of Light”

Make it a priority that you will only hang out with great, positive and loving people. Sometimes it’s hard to find those people in your immediate social surroundings, if that’s the case, step “outside the box” and go find them.

friend circleYou can do that by joining a fun and positive “meetup” group that focuses on “inspiration” or on a topic that revolves around living your life positively.

It’s vital that you surround yourself with positive, highly evolved, loving people who elevate you.

10. Love More

Make it a priority to always come from a place of love.love symbol on the wall

Whether you are standing in the grocery line, stuck in traffic, or having a conversation with a co-worker, family member or a friend, coming from this love “state” not only affects how you feel, it affects how others feel around you too.

How do you do that? Simply ask yourself “If I were coming from a place of love right now, how would I act?” and then do that.

Sometimes it can simply be acknowledging another person with a big genuine smile, giving a compliment or just refraining from getting into a confrontation when you’re placed in a negative situation.

11. Go Within & Get Really Connected To “Source” (or the God of your understanding)

Simply be still, be present and go within.

Meditation is a phenomenal way to do that. There’s no better way to elevate your vibration, feel true inner peace and get the answers, solutions and guidance you are looking for.

habits

AND last but not least…

12. Focus On What’s Important

Sometimes we get so consumed on the little things or we are so focused on achieving a specific goal, that we neglect the bigger and more important things in our life. Often, we don’t realize that — until it’s too late.

So what’s important?

RELATIONSHIPS – that is the most important “thing” in our lives. Don’t neglect, ignore, or dismiss the people who mean the most to you.

They won’t always be there. Keep Connected!people-connected

Remember, life is short. Don’t find out the hard way to learn this lesson, like many people do.

We all go through tough times in our lives. Life is full of its ups and downs. For some of us, those down’s last a really long time.

For us, our health was bad and Nicky was out of work. But that time period (2015-2017) forced Nicky to learn how to bounce back and make a comeback in my life.

As Entrepreneurs, we share the desire to create freedom in our “work” and “life” through Entrepreneurship. We live in the Golden Age of Entrepreneurs. Right now, there are more and more opportunities available so we can fulfill our dreams.

Still, there are some Entrepreneurs reading this that are stuck in their business and their life. You know who you are. You can’t figure out why you’re not making progress or what to do next in your business.

The “missing link” could be the type of Entrepreneur you are. Understanding your motivation as an Entrepreneur can be the key to growing your business and reaching whatever milestone of success you’re striving to achieve.

What Entrepreneur Type Are You?
Check out the 5 Types to decide for Yourself!

1. The Skeptical Entrepreneur

Let’s get the worst type of Entrepreneur out of the way first. Those that are skeptical see others succeed and immediately start questioning every little thing. They examine that person’s business and looks for the “lucky” breaks or even the inheritance they think that those successful entrepreneurs received.

The Skeptical Entrepreneur

Maybe it’s the news or previous life experiences, but they are skeptical of success and don’t believe it’s possible without all the stars falling into place.

When you can’t see or believe success is possible, you’ll never get to a place in your mind that allows you to take action. Once stuck; you’ll make every excuse and believe it because of your skeptical mindset.
Once stuck that’s how you stay!

2. The Copycat Entrepreneur

This Entrepreneur sees the success of others and tries to copy them exactly. This means that their website and business cards are the same. Also how the way they brand and present themselves is the carbon copy of a leader in their industry.Copycat Entrepreneur

There is nothing wrong with modeling success—it’s actually very smart.

There is a fine line, however, between modeling and copying. Modeling success means you see what works and figure out how to make it relevant to your business, and who you are as a person. If you’re currently copying, then it’s time to be honest with yourself and switch to modeling.

3. The Research Entrepreneur

This Entrepreneur researches every possible scenario and outcome for strategies to start or grow a business. As this person loves to learn. There is nothing wrong with learning, but when that’s all you do, it becomes a problem.Research Niche

Too many Entrepreneurs fall victim to information overload. The key to success is learning and then implementing. The implementing has to happen.

4. The Determined Entrepreneur

This Entrepreneur hasn’t “made it” but they will, no matter what. They see the value in entrepreneurship, they see that success is possible without copying, and they do everything they can to start or grow their business.

Starting and growing a business is hard, and it takes time, but there is proof that it’s possible to thrive.

Read: The Determined Entrepreneur – The Story of Dr. George Tinsley and the Values that Guided His Journey to Success. It looks at the values that guided one of America’s most improbable entrepreneurs on his life journey. The Determined Entrepreneur - The Story of Dr George Tinsley
You too could achieve real success. To get there, you need to change your mindset from focusing on what too many people consider “reality” to what you know your reality can be.

Keep in mind that “Life is a journey, not a destination.”

5. The Accomplished Entrepreneur

This Entrepreneur has gone through all the stages of entrepreneurship and building a business, and has reached success. They are now focused on scaling their business and leaving a legacy that extends beyond their lifetime.

These accomplished Entrepreneurs has figured out the things that will help you reach success. They understand their time is their most valuable resource so they use it wisely.

These people have figured out how to connect with their customer and how to solve their biggest problems. They are experiencing true freedom, but don’t believe they “make it”. As there is another frontier to explore and always more to achieve.

What Type of Entrepreneur are you?

Get honest about which one you are and which one you want to be. Face the truth and make a change if it needs to be made. Success will be different for each of us, but if you’re stuck, it could be because you’re not the type of Entrepreneur you should and want to be.

Success takes time. Decide what you want from your business and how that fits into your life.

For those Entrepreneurs reading this that are stuck in their business and their life. You know who you are.

Maybe you can’t figure out why you’re not making progress or what to do next in your business.
